| Paper Pushers @ Gallery 1988 SF |
[11 Aug 2008|12:53am] |

I'm in this show (my first show!) Paper Pushers drawing show at Gallery 1988 in San Fransisco. Opening August 15 - September 6 2008.
The only problem is I sent my drawings almost 4 weeks ago and they haven't arrived at the gallery yet! So in a bit of a frenzy I made a new drawing this weekend that I'll express courier to the gallery to make sure I'm still in the show!
Here is the new drawing, called 'Paper Cranes':

| Drawing and website |
[11 Jul 2008|04:36pm] |

This is one of my drawings for the paper pushers drawing show at Gallery 1988 SF, in August. I'll be putting 2-3 drawings into the show. This one is very pre-raphaelite-ish. I'm thinking of making it into a painting, but we'll see.
In other news my website is gone! Actually it's still there, but my domain name seems to be broken - it leads no where, just to an error page. It's very distressing because I don't know how to fix it. I will be needing ice-cream very soon. Until it is fixed the website can be seen at this url: http://melissahaslam.orionvisuals.com.

| Finding a pink rabbit in the flowering undergrowth |
[08 Jul 2008|07:27pm] |

One of the paintings for the show at Project:Gallery in LA, it's just about complete. It's a fairly small (cute?) 9x12 inches - oil, acrylic and ink on wooden panel.
P.S. Gloves are so cute, and I finally managed to work them into a painting :)

Some upcoming shows to keep me busy:
And (for the second time) I finished the fairytalesque stalk painting.

This is pretty much done. I'll see if I still think so when it's dry.

| girls vs echidnas (wip) |
[25 Apr 2008|02:33am] |

This is a work-in-progress drawing, I'm really liking it so far - lets hope I don't stuff it up! Those little ball shaped animals are echidnas. The little ones are pretty cute so the girls thought they might take a few of them home, but the fatter, less attractive echidnas are not too happy with the idea. The background is going to be a forest of mutated palm trees.

| Curvy 5 |
[08 Apr 2008|02:01pm] |
I have a painting in the Curvy 5 book! Curvy is a collection of 100 female illustrators, artists and graphic designers. I've always loved this book and its really great to be a part of it.

| Semi-Permanent 2008 |
[08 Apr 2008|01:54pm] |
One of my drawings has been included in the Semi-Permanent 2008 book. It's a great book - no text, just full page colour images by a wide range of artists and designers. The book is available from mag nation in Melbourne (probably other places too).
I draw that image over 6 months ago. Its very strange to see it published since my newer stuff looks looks a little different.
I also attended the conference in Sydney, mainly to hear Amy Sol speak. I've written a short report on her presentation which you can read here.

[08 Mar 2008|09:15pm] |

WATIM (weAREtheIMAGEmakers) is an online zine that promotes Australian artists, illustrators, designers and photographers. Its full of great artwork and interviews. Issue 15 has just been released and you can find a few of my images in the gallery section.
And in other news, Amy Sol is going to be at the Semi-Permanent conference in Sydney! It would be great to go, unfortunately I can't afford it (airfares, accommodation - so much!), but there are a few competitions going around so I might try and win some tickets :)

| Print release announcement! |
[23 Feb 2008|10:23pm] |

I am very excited to announce the release of my first limited edition giclee print, Sleepy Pink Birds. The print is available from the new store section of my website. It's archival and beautifully printed on 100% cotton rag paper. The print is signed, titled and numbered with an edition of 100.

| Honey and trees |
[17 Feb 2008|03:42pm] |
I made this little sketch a while ago, while on holidays in Bright (Dec 2007). I was just flicking through one of my sketch books and found it. I have no idea why I drew a string instrument in the top corner - thats just plain weird!

| Website Launch! |
[07 Feb 2008|11:51pm] |

My new website is finally up and running, please visit at http://www.melissahaslam.com/. Let me know if there are any problems. I have no space on my computer for dreamweaver (I keep getting that annoying yellow 'low disk space' pop-up thingy on windows) and had to code it by hand, so some of my html is a little old-school :)
Luckily I get my new computer tomorrow.

Just a girl with a fish on her head.

| Vodka bunnies |
[02 Feb 2008|09:51pm] |

Oil on wood, approx 30cm tall. Not sure of width...I can never find a ruler when I need it.
It's a girl hiking in the woods with her pet bunnies and some vodka + carrots to keep them going. For some strange reason this is how I imagine Norway to be,

| Octopus! |
[30 Jan 2008|02:23am] |

Another drawing, I've been doing quite a few lately. A girl carrying an octopus in her apron pocket - pretty self explanatory, really!
I might make it into a painting but I don't know. Octopus are fairly over done these days. But so cute!!

| Flowers and Bugs |
[20 Jan 2008|05:04am] |
|
Its 5am so don't expect me to say anything overly intelligent. Just a drawing of a girl, some Australian flowers and a few insects. And now, bed.
